A tropical fruit tree from the Americas and the Caribbean, it is closely related to the Cherimoya. The white fleshy fruit averages 3-6kgs and is high in Vitamin C and valuable anti-oxidants.
It tastes like a pleasant blend of strawberries, pineapple, coconut, mangoes and apples with some say, a slight Sherbert fizz. The fruit, produced after 3-4 years and weighing on average 3-5 kgs, is ideal for making smoothies, cold drinks, sorbet and ice cream.
Best grown in the northern areas of the North Island, (temperature range 5-30C) it can be susceptible to frosts, so protect the tree when these threaten.
